Machine Guards

Moving machine parts can cause workplace injuries. Serious injuries can result in permanent disabilities. The purpose of machine guarding is to protect the machine operator and other staff in the work area from hazards created during the machine’s normal operation. Any machine part, function, or process that might cause injury must be safeguarded.

At AAP Metal Fabrication Services Ltd, we have the skills, expertise and the machinery required to manufacture high-end machine guards. And for added peace of mind, we follow strict quality guidelines as per ISO and other relevant Industry Standards. Serving customers in the North East and across the UK, our passionate team is here to meet your bespoke machine guarding requirements.

Sheet metal machine guards are used where, in addition to preventing access to machine hazards, there is also a need to contain swarf, cutting chips or coolant. Sheet metal guards can be used in conjunction with other types of guarding such as wire mesh guarding, or sheet metal can be used to enclose a machine fully, with safe access points and viewing windows located where necessary. For noisy machines, our sheet metal guards can incorporate soundproofing materials to create acoustic enclosures.

Stainless steel machine guards are used for hygienic applications or those where water or corrosive substances are present. Typical industries include food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, papermaking and chemicals. Stainless steel is often used in conjunction with clear polycarbonate or stainless steel wire mesh where there is a need for process visibility.

Different applications call for close-fitting stainless steel guards, enclosures or perimeter guarding – and sometimes a combination of these is necessary.

Machine guards primarily prevent access to hazardous machinery but they can also protect against noise, dust, fumes, mists or other hazards relating to the machinery, materials or process.

Our machine safety design experts have over decades of knowledge and experience between them. With a working knowledge of the European, International and industry standards, AAP Metal Fabrication Services Ltd is your perfect partner for Machine Guarding needs.

Our in-house design and manufacturing team ensures we maintain complete control over quality and delivery timescales.

Installation service

Customers often ask us to install machine guards so they can minimise disruption and downtime. Our installation service has the following benefits:

  • Highly experienced machine guard fitters
  • A large team of fitters enables installations to be completed very quickly
  • Connect safety interlocks to the machine’s control system
  • Installations are carried out at times convenient for you, including weekends.

We design, manufacture and install our bespoke sheet metal machine guards in compliance with several standards including BS EN ISO 14120 and BS EN ISO 13857.

For new machines or pre-owned machines that need to be CE marked before they can be used, sheet metal guards aid compliance with the Machinery Directive and the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations. For existing machinery, sheet metal guards can help employers meet their legal obligations under PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
